Simple And Super Easy Animal Costumes in 15 minutes.

Pooja Sitharthan

Painting costumes seems like an enormous amount of work and you will not be able to use the clothes again. Here we have 5 different costumes which is simple and super easy a child can do.

The first couple of costumes require duct tape. I really like the idea of using duct tape because you don't have to wait for the paint to dry, AND, you can use the shirts over again for something else.

Before we start cutting our duct tape, here is a foolproof way we found to cut larger shapes and a way to get cleaner cuts.

To cut larger shapes, pull and cut out strips of duct tape, overlapping them over the cutting mat to create a rectangle or square. Then, draw and cut out a template from paper, trace around that shape with a craft knife on the duct tape, and peel out the shape to use it.

Cat

Cats may be classic, but that doesn't mean your costume has to be boring. After all, throughout the animal kingdom and pop culture, the feline presents itself in many forms: sultry superhero cats, ferocious wild cats, harmless house cats, Instagram-famous cats, and beyond.

Whatever cat you choose to be, the great thing is that it can all be adjusted to meet your makeup skill level. Even if you're a total beginner who owns nothing but a black eyeliner pencil, this is an easy look to put together.

Materials required

  • Black eye pencil or black liner
  • Colours for the coat of your cat (optional)

Steps

Eye

When we are trying to create the eye of a cat, what better way than to just do a cat-eye. We will make it a little more exaggerated than normal as it is for a costume.

  • Line your eyelid near your lashes with black eyeliner.
  • Extend the line halfway to the end of your eyebrow and corner of your eye.
  • Make the eyeliner a little thick so that it is visible.

Nose

  • Use a black liquid liner to color in the bottom half of your nose.
  • Extend the liner down to your cupid's bow in the middle of your lips, and create small dots on either side of the line

Mouth area

  • Draw on whiskers with the liquid liner as well.
  • Fill in only your top lip with the black liner or pencil.

The ears

  • Cut out shapes of ears using cards and attach them to a head band.

Body

  • Wear black top and bottom to complete the costume.

Worm

Next we are going to do an all time favorite children’s book character - “The very hungry caterpillar”. Yes you heard me right, we are going to make a DIY worm costume.

This is one costume which required some time to cut out things but it is pretty simple to put together.

You will need

  • A green card (6-7 pcs)
  • A large plate
  • String
  • Red card and purple card
  • Pencil
  • Marker
  • Scissors

Steps

  • Draw circles using the plate as a template and cut out the circles.
  • Punch 2 holes on the top of the first circle to create a neck band.
  • Using glue overlap the circles to create the body of the worm.
  • Take a longer string and attach the ends to the top of the circles. This is what you will tie around your neck.
  • Cut out a long strip of red card. Draw two large eyes on the band and glue the ends to create a head band.
  • You can add some antennas on the red band if you want or leave it as it is.

And you are done! Caterpillar complete! 😊

A full-fledged frog costume might seem a little hard to fathom, so we have come up with an absolute easy method. We will be making a mask 😊 out of green card.

Materials required

  • Green card
  • Scissors
  • String or ribbon
  • Black pen

Steps

  • Trace out the frog face.I have attached a basic outline of how it should look but you can measure your face and create one according to your preference.
    - Template 1
    - Template 2
  • Cut out the eyes and add some details using black pen.
  • Make two small holes in the sides and string your ribbon or string.
